Cordless phones make communication possible within limited ranges of 50 to 100 meters at best and are good for communicating within a home or the office premises. Base station with a fixed line is owned by the subscriber. Mobile phones on the other hand have no such range limitation as communication is possible to the farthest and remotest parts of the globe with it. Base station is not with the subscriber but with the cell site and provider.

Talk time on the mobile phone refers to number of minutes the user can talk with a fully charged battery. Usually the time varies in the range of 100-750 minutes. Most used batteries for mobile phones are lithium polymer, lithium ion, and nickel metal hydrite. First two categories are slimmer with larger power capacity and do not discharge when the phone is switched off. Such batteries can be recharged without consequential reduction in capacity. Nickel batteries are heavier with less power capacity, discharges when not in use, and capacity reduces by frequent recharging. However sets with former lithium batteries cost higher.

Ordinarily one would find two sizes of mobile phones in the market; palm size and medium size. Palm size ones are easier carrying and can be conveniently kept in the pocket or purse.
