Finding The Best Headphones For Sport

Article by Dean Walsh

I don’t know about you but I personally can’t imagine training without having my music to spur me on, to keep me from getting bored at times, and to just generally make my training more effective and a more enjoyable experience. I suppose it does depend on what sport you do of course, because you can not listen to music when practicing a team game I would imagine, but for gym training and any solo stuff like running having an mp3 player with you to be able to listen to you tunes is really a must have item if you ask me.

But although the advent of the ipod and other mp3s mean that we no longer have problems with the actual player (remember using portable compact disk players, where even the anti-shock ones would keep skipping if you moved around to jerkily?) a lot of people do sometimes have problems with the headphones still.

But there are some great headphone products around that are made specifically with sport uses in mind and which overcome some of the problems like getting caught or slipping around. You can even get waterproof headphones for swimming!

If you are looking for headphones to use while running or something like that then I would say bluetooth is a great feature to look for because then you do not need to worry about catching the wire by mistake. If you get quite sweaty then it is very handy to have a product which is water resistant and can be wiped cleaning with a damp cloth – rather than the ones with soft material pad which are harder to clean.

If you are looking for cheap then JVC do some good in ear headphones that won’t pop out. Also Sennheiser are a very good brand to look out for when it comes to buying headphones for sports uses. They have some great products, and although they aren’t exactly cheap they aren’t super expensive either and I would say that they are very good value for money.

Swimming Headphones: How To Choose Swimming Headphones?

waterproof mp3 player

Up until a few years ago, the very idea of swimming headphones was patently ridicolous. First and foremost there’s the matter of water and electronics – the kind of combination you without doubt do not want to try in first person. And then there’s the problem of dealing with cords around your neck as you try to move your whole body through the water, without getting tangled in the cords from your swimming headphones.

Technological advancement is a marvelous thing though, and over the past few years a number of swimming headphones have been created that specifically allow you to listen to music and audiobooks, as you swim, surf, or do any other aquatic sport you like.

The first, most common, solution requires you to wear waterproof headphones that are attached to a waterproof case for your iPod Shuffle or other brand/type of MP3 player. The case is then attached to your swimming goggle, so that your arms have the leeway they need to properly glide through the water.

Honestly, the majority of such protective cases don’t do a very good job of actually protecting your iPod or MP3 player. Establishing a 100% waterproof system is far from an easy task. There are, however, companies that specialize in making such swim-proof systems available. Such systems should always favored over cheap, knock-off protective cases.

The second solution for swimmers and water lovers is to purchase an all-in-one set of headphones that include a waterproof MP3 player. If you’re not too attached to the MP3 player that you already have (or if you’re fine with having one that you’ve designated specifically for when you’re in the water), there are a few different models that come complete with both a waterproof set of headphones and a waterproof MP3 player.

In short, today’s technology allows swimmers to enjoy their favorite music while working or just playing around in the water. For music lovers who really enjoy spending time at the pool or beach, having options like the ones mentioned above can be a dream come true.Up until a few years ago, the very idea of swimming headphones was patently ridicolous. Swimming Headphones Using Bone Conduction Technology Continue to Improve

waterproof mp3 player

What we think of typically as sound consists of vibrations in the air reaching our ears. But there are a couple of obstacles that get in the way when we want to make headphones that work underwater.

You would think that just using waterproofing material to made a set of ear buds would work. But the way we hear is actually more complicated.

There are two ways in which we hear things in the open air. The main method is that the sound waves in the air vibrate on our eardrums and the inner ear and the brain converts these signals to what we think of as sound. But we also ‘feel’ the sound wave vibrations in our bones. Especially the bones in our skull. And these also add to the quality of sound we hear.

The first type of hearing, sound waves vibrating on our inner ears and eardrums, doesn’t work when we are underwater. The water in our ears stops the eardrum and inner ear from being able to vibrate the same way it does in the air. Therefore, this part of our hearing is greatly diminished unless we come up with a way to to keep the ear buds and our inner ears dry underwater. Some swimming headphones use this method with special gaskets that keep all the water out. This is quite effective, but usually a bit cumbersome to wear.

Many waterproof headphone manufacturers use a new upcoming method called bone conduction to enable us to hear while underwater.

Bone conduction technology type swimming headphones can work exceptionally well for listening to music or podcasts while you are in the water. But like all good things, there are still a few problems.

Hearing, either in the air or in the water, through bone conduction is quite a bit less efficient than normal hearing in the air. While bone conduction is still a very workable method of hearing while in the water, there may be problems with getting adequate volume from your waterproof mp3 player.

Many people report excellent results with the bone conduction technology and love being able to take their waterproof headphones anywhere in or under the water. But there are also some who report that they must have their player at the highest volume which in turn reduces battery time. More volume is needed since hearing by bone conduction is less efficient.

Bone conduction technology will continue to improve. We are at the point where there are many very workable and quality products on the market. And these will undoubtedly improve through time.

By doing some checking and keeping up to date on the latest offerings and models, you’ll find that you will be able to find a very affordable and workable solution that will enable you to jump in the pool with your waterproof mp3 player and your swimming headphones blissfully listening to your favorite tunes without giving it a thought.

Choosing The Best Waterproof Headphones For Swimming

Having a waterproof mp3 player to listen to while you are swimming can make a huge difference to your training. Runners have known this for ages and the majority of runners will now listen to music while training, especially those who are covering longer distances and people training on their own rather than with a club or team. And swimmers can now do the same with waterproof headphones designed especially with swimming in mind.

And waterproof headphones can be really great for other things too. Other water sports would be an obvious example, from windsurfing to jetskis to water skiing behind a boat. But they are also very nice to have to take on holiday with you so that you can listen to music on the beach or beside a pool without having to worry about getting splashes of water on your headphones and wrecking them, and a variety of other uses too.

So if you are thinking about getting a set for yourself then here is my advice to use when choosing:

Make sure you don’t mistake water resistant for waterproof. They aren’t the same, and if you go swimming in water resistant headphones then you are asking for trouble.
If you have an ipod then you can get systems especially for that, with waterproof cases to put the ipod in and external controls for adjusting volume and so on without having to go and get dry first.
Go for a trusted brand. The best manufacturers are Speedo and H2O Audio. If you buy something made by either of these two companies then you know they will be reliable and good quality.

Finding the Best Headphones For a Sports MP3 Player

If you use your sports mp3 player when engaging in outdoor or water sports, using proper headphones that won’t be damaged by shocks or quick motion is necessary. And if you will be listening while in or on the water and have one of the new waterproof mp3 players you need to match it with waterproof headphones. Technology is constantly advancing and now there is an alternative to the traditional ear bud type phones.

There are many people who have changed from traditional ear bud type headphones to the newer headphones that use bone conduction technology. These types of headphones do not fit in your ears like ear buds, or cover your ears like traditional headphones. When you are exercising, hiking, biking or swimming there are many times when it is important to be able to hear external and ambient sounds. And this is something that can be very important as far as your safety is concerned.

When you wear ear bud type headphones, especially if you like to listen to your music at a high volume, it is very difficult and sometimes impossible for you to hear other external sounds. This can be very dangerous in situations where you might need to be alerted. A jogger who comes to an intersection and proceeds across depending on the cross lights might not hear a car coming that is running the light or emergency vehicles that will not stop. There are many cases where being able to hear sounds from the world around us can give us warning or alert us to possible danger that we don’t see with our eyes.

Another growing problem with in the ear buds is potential damage to your hearing from extended exposure to loud sounds and music. There are many people who are becoming concerned with the possible long term damage to your hearing. Bone conduction headphones do not create this problem since the sound is sent by bone conduction with vibrates the inner ear directly and allows you to hear the sound without loud sound waves impacting your ear drums.

Whether you are in, out or near the water when you are swimming or taking part in water sports bone conduction headphones can  give you very good quality sound. Many people prefer these over in the ear waterproof ear buds. The problems with inserting and sealing standard waterproof ear buds can be uncomfortable due to the need to fit them more tightly than usual in your ear canal. Some people have also reported discomfort in removing these traditional ear buds since the waterproof fit is very tight.

The bone type conduction headphones have a number of things that make them a better choice. When you are considering which type of headphones to choose for your sports mp3 player, you may want the bonus of being able to hear external and ambient noise which gives you added safety. Along with this you also get extremely good sound quality and the comfort of these non traditional type headphones.

Bluetooth Headphones – Essential Device In Today’s World

headphoneSome years before cell phones were considered as the status symbol. But now neither mobile phones nor the Bluetooth headphones acquire that status. So many wireless headsets are distinct models and brands are available that people get confused when they go to buy them. There is lot of competition among different companies and also offer you less price. This major factor makes it easier for everyone to fulfill his desire and purchase the Bluetooth headphone. Some of the tips are discussed below:

Call Features Apart from providing you to listen fair quality music through a wireless connection from other device that is Bluetooth enabled, entire Bluetooth headsets show the similar basic features. Just like your cell phone you can dial calls, reject calls, mute calls, redial the previous number and receive incoming calls. These features are included in all the Bluetooth headphones.

However, if you try the advanced and upgraded versions then are obviously better than the previous ones. They can reject noise especially wind noise to a great extent to enhance the sound quality. Other feature includes the voice command that enables to call at any number without even using the number keys to do so. But higher the technology, greater is the price. Same is true for Bluetooth headphones also. Hence, buy the headset as per your needs. If you want advanced features in your Bluetooth headphone then go for the costlier one otherwise prefer the cheap one.

Multipoint Capability The advanced Bluetooth headphones provide this feature. Multipoint capability is the ability of headphone to connect to two distinct phones at the same time. Those headphones with simple, general features will not offer this facility. However, the models that give you this feature are expensive than others. Suppose you can pair two cell phones simultaneously using this feature.
