Vodafone Places Nexus One on Pre Order

Monday, June 21st, 2010

The Google phone is now available via preorder on the Vodafone UK website. The major mobile network operator has announced that the first shipments of the device will be sent by the 5th of May. Also, an additional 1GB of data and WiFi will be included in the deal. You can look at this and many other Vodafone mobile phone deals at Moby1.

The Nexus One is free with the two year, 35 Pound monthly tariff and is considered to be a great deal for the high end Android smart phone. It has been noted that HTC Desire is available for free on the 30 Pound two year tariff, but since the Nexus One offers few extra features, the addition 5 Pounds per month is not such a bad deal.

The device comes with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor which keeps the phone running fast and smooth. Even with resource heavy apps, the phone is able to run without significant slowdowns. The 5 mega pixel camera does a great job of taking images and videos. Lastly, the 3.7 inch AMOLED touch screen gives users fast and accurate finger tracking as well as high quality images.

In addition to the impressive hardware, Google has added a couple of extra features in this phone as well. It was the first to feature the new Google Earth app for the Android, and more importantly, the only device to feature such advanced voice recognition software. First off, the device is able to recognize words and sentences, which turns the whole speech to text function as something that users can truly rely on. Users can also do voice activated search queries (as shown in the January demonstration of the device).

Overall, the Nexus One is great phone to look forward to; and if you are planning to get this phone, better pre-order one now. Otherwise, there are many other fantastic Android phones to look out for including HTC Desire and some very nice HTC Wildfire deals

An Affordable Alternative: The Sony Ericsson Spiro

Emerging Markets

Sony Ericsson continues to stake its claim in the emerging markets by announcing its intent to launch yet another entry-level device later this year. Adding to the highly popular Walkman line of devices is the upcoming Sony Ericsson Spiro. This device combines the impressive music features found in Walkman mobiles with a very reasonable price tag. This means that consumers of the lower market segments should be able to get their hands on a multimedia-friendly device that won’t require them to shell out a whole month’s pay check. What’s even better is that the Spiro isn’t only a media-centric device. It also packs in a number of mobile phone features that should allow it to establish itself in this particular market segment. Emerging markets have definitely become a legitimate cash cow for mobile phone manufacturers and Sony Ericsson has undoubtedly recognized this fact. Giving You What You Need

In a nutshell, you could say that the new Spiro is a no nonsense type of mobile phone. That is, it doesn’t pretend to be something it isn’t. Instead, its brand proposition is that it is a basic mobile phone with music feature enhancements. While it may not be able to deliver the most cutting edge features you’d expect from a top of the line Smartphone, the Spiro will give you all the basic features you need from a mobile phone. The best iphone deals are still to be found online.

It’s a dual band device that 240 x 320 pixel, 2.2-inch screen. Its internal memory is only at 5MB but the microSD card slot is capable of holding up to 16GB of external memory. GPRS, EDGE, and Bluetooth are all on board as well. Sony Ericsson is even kind enough to add a purely functional 2-Megapixel camera on board the Spiro.

Music to Your Ears

Being a Walkman device, it would only be logical that the Sony Ericsson Spiro’s strongest point is in the multimedia department. In terms of the user interface, very few mobile music players are at par with Sony Ericsson’s proprietary music player. Version 4.0 of the Walkman player is what’s on the Spiro and users should expect the same awesome features found on previous Walkman mobiles. And since the Walkman line has been in hibernation for a good year or so, we’re expecting a few enhancements here and there which should make this music player even better.

There is of course a 3.5 mm ear jack on board and the player is compatible with a majority of music file formats including MP3, MP4, and AAC.
